Put The Ball Down
PTBD Reports Help
1. Introduction
PTBD analyses football statistics and match events to identify patterns, rates, streaks and relationships that may be difficult to notice by looking at individual matches.
The examples below use FC Barcelona in La Liga to explain each report in simple terms. The figures are examples only and do not represent live PTBD data.
2. Highlights
Showing the most powerful statistical signals and patterns identified by PTBD, uncovering team trends, current form, and in-play match event relationships.
What Does This Mean?
Highlights brings together some of the most powerful signals identified across PTBD into one place.
Instead of checking every statistical report separately, you can quickly see important patterns PTBD has detected for teams with relevant matches.
These signals can come from different areas of the platform, such as event rates, active streaks and relationships between match events and full-time results.
Simple Example
Imagine Barcelona has:
- Scored first in 8 of its last 10 La Liga matches
- Scored in both halves in 7 of those matches
- Won 6 of the 7 matches where it was leading at half time
PTBD may identify one or more of these as strong signals and display them in Highlights, allowing you to notice the pattern without having to analyse each report separately.
3. Prime Signals
Showing the statistical signals and patterns that stand out most for teams in live and upcoming matches.
What Does This Mean?
Prime Signals focuses on statistical patterns that particularly stand out for individual teams.
A signal may stand out because its value is unusually high or noticeably different from what is normally seen across other teams.
Prime Signals brings these distinctive team patterns together so you can identify them quickly without searching through all the underlying statistics.
Simple Example
Suppose Barcelona has scored first in 90% of its La Liga matches, while this type of percentage is normally much lower for most teams.
That statistic clearly stands out.
PTBD may therefore identify Score First – 90% as one of Barcelona's Prime Signals.
4. Match Events
Event Rate
What am I seeing?
Showing how often a selected match event has happened within the selected match timeline across each team's matches this season for the same competition as their next scheduled match.
What does this mean?
Event Rate answers a very simple question: How often has this event happened?
You choose:
- A Match Event
- A Match Timeline
PTBD then checks the team's matches this season in the same competition as its next scheduled match and calculates the percentage of matches where that event happened.
Simple Example
Barcelona has played 10 La Liga matches this season.
You select:
- Match Event: Score First
- Match Timeline: Full Time
Barcelona scored first in 6 of those 10 matches.
6 out of 10 = 60%
PTBD would show: 60%
In simple terms: Barcelona scored first in 60% of its La Liga matches this season.
Dynamic Description Example
Showing match % where Score First event happened within Full Time timeline.
Active Streaks
What am I seeing?
Showing the current number of consecutive matches where a selected match event has happened within the selected match timeline for each team this season for the same competition as their next scheduled match.
What does this mean?
Active Streaks answers another simple question: How many matches in a row has this event happened?
Instead of calculating a percentage across the whole season, PTBD starts from the team's latest match and counts how many consecutive matches have contained the selected event.
Simple Example
Suppose Barcelona scored first in each of its latest 3 La Liga matches.
- Match 1 → Scored First
- Match 2 → Scored First
- Match 3 → Scored First
- Match 4 → Did Not Score First
The active streak stops at Match 4.
Barcelona's current Score First streak is therefore 3 matches.
Dynamic Description Example
Showing the current streak where Score First event happened within Full Time timeline.
5. Combo Events
Combo Event Rate
What am I seeing?
Showing how often the selected combination of a trigger event and full-time result has happened across each team's matches this season for the same competition as their next scheduled match.
What does this mean?
Combo Event Rate looks for two conditions happening together in the same match:
- A selected Trigger Event
- A selected Full-Time Result
It then calculates how often that complete combination happened across all of the team's matches in the competition.
Simple Example
Barcelona has played 10 La Liga matches. You select:
- Trigger Event: Half-Time Draw
- Full-Time Result: Win
Across those 10 matches:
- Barcelona was drawing at half time in 4 matches
- In 3 of those matches, Barcelona went on to win
The complete Half-Time Draw + Win combination therefore happened in 3 of Barcelona's 10 matches.
3 out of 10 = 30%
The Combo Event Rate is therefore: 30%
Dynamic Description Example
Showing match % where Half-Time Draw event and Win result happened as a combination.
After Trigger Result Rate
What am I seeing?
Showing how often the selected full-time result was recorded only in matches where the selected trigger event happened this season for the same competition as their next scheduled match.
What does this mean?
This report asks: When this trigger happened, what was the full-time result?
Unlike Combo Event Rate, PTBD does not calculate the percentage against all season matches.
First, PTBD keeps only the matches where the selected trigger happened. Then it checks how often the selected full-time result was recorded within those matches.
Simple Example
Using the same Barcelona example:
Barcelona played 10 La Liga matches. Half-Time Draw happened in 4 matches. We now ignore the other 6 matches.
Out of those 4 matches:
- Barcelona won 3
- Barcelona drew 1
- Barcelona lost 0
You select:
- Trigger Event: Half-Time Draw
- Full-Time Result: Win
The calculation is: 3 Wins out of 4 qualifying matches = 75%
Combo Event Rate = 30% because the combination happened in 3 of all 10 matches.
After Trigger Result Rate = 75% because Barcelona won 3 of the 4 matches where the trigger happened. This is the key difference between the two reports.
Dynamic Description Example
Showing match % where Win result was recorded only in matches where Half-Time Draw event happened.
After Trigger Streaks
What am I seeing?
Showing the current number of consecutive matches where the selected full-time result was recorded after the selected trigger event happened this season for the same competition as their next scheduled match.
What does this mean?
After Trigger Streaks applies the same idea as After Trigger Result Rate, but instead of showing a percentage, it looks for a current consecutive run.
It answers: How many matches in a row has this result followed this trigger?
Simple Example
Suppose Barcelona's latest matches show:
- Match 1 → Half-Time Draw → Barcelona Win
- Match 2 → Half-Time Draw → Barcelona Win
- Match 3 → Half-Time Draw → Barcelona Draw
The selected relationship — Half-Time Draw followed by Win — happened in the latest 2 consecutive matches before being broken.
The current After Trigger Streak is therefore: 2 matches
Dynamic Description Example
Showing current streak where Win result was recorded after Half-Time Draw event happened.
